Beaudesert is the main town of the Scenic Rim, sitting on the Logan River where the Mount Lindesay Highway heads south towards the border ranges. Around it is cattle, horse and hay country, small acreage lifestyle blocks and a handful of villages, and that mix decides what people store and how the container gets in.
Cattle, horses and hay
The Scenic Rim has a long history of beef cattle and dairying, and today it is also home to a lot of horse properties, from pony club families to breeders and campdraft competitors. Those properties generate a lot of gear: saddles and tack, rugs, feed, fencing supplies, drenches and vet kit, spare parts for tractors and slashers. Tack in particular needs to stay dry and away from rodents, and a sealed steel container does that better than an open-sided shed.
Hay is another common reason to call. Small square bales for horses stored in a container stay dry and protected from rain, although hay should always be properly cured before it is shut in anywhere, because damp hay heats up.
Farm chemicals and fuel
Most properties carry some fuel for machinery and chemicals for weeds, pests and pasture. Keeping them in a general purpose container is better than leaving drums in the open, but a dangerous goods container, with ventilation and a bunded sump floor to catch spills, is the proper way to store flammable liquids and many farm chemicals. Our DG guide explains what the different classes mean and what the rules generally expect.
Getting onto a Scenic Rim property
Access is where Scenic Rim deliveries differ from the city. Many properties are reached by gravel roads, causeways and creek crossings, and farm tracks can be firm in the dry and impassable after rain. Gates may be narrower than the 3.5 metres a tilt-tray needs, and cattle grids and culverts need to take the weight of a loaded truck.
Hills are the other factor. Around Canungra, Tamborine and the ranges towards Rathdowney and Mount Barney, driveways can be steep and properties sit on slopes. The truck needs a reasonably firm, level place to stand while it unloads, and the container needs a level pad. When you ask for a quote, describe the road in, the gate and the spot, or better still send photos. That lets us plan the job properly or suggest a better location on the block.
Tradies and builders on acreage
Acreage builds and renovations are common around Beaudesert, Gleneagles, Veresdale and out towards Kooralbyn. Builders and owner-builders use containers as secure lockups for tools and materials on sites a long way from the nearest hardware shop, where theft from an open slab is a real risk. A 20ft is the usual choice; on bigger jobs a 40ft holds a full frame and cladding package with room to spare.
Before you use a container as a permanent structure, check with Scenic Rim Regional Council about what approvals apply to your property. Short-term storage during a build is usually treated differently from a container that stays indefinitely.
What suits which job
- 20ft — tack rooms, feed, building-site lockups
- 40ft — machinery, hay and larger farm storage where a sidelifter can get in
- High cube — workshop space for fixing gear on the property
- Dangerous goods — fuel and farm chemicals kept bunded and ventilated
- 10ft — small lifestyle blocks and village lots
Before the truck comes out
A few minutes of preparation saves a lot of trouble on a rural delivery. Mark the set-down spot with pegs, clear long grass and fallen timber from the approach, tie up dogs and move stock out of the paddock the truck will cross. Open and chain back any gates. If the spot is on a slope, have sleepers or concrete blocks ready so the downhill corners can be packed up and the doors will open and close cleanly.
It also helps to tell us which way you want the doors to face. On a horse property that is usually towards the stables or the float parking, so tack and feed are carried the shortest distance.
Delivery to Beaudesert and the Rim
We cover Beaudesert alongside our Jimboomba and Logan acreage deliveries. Freight is quoted with the container as one delivered price, and it depends mostly on how far off the highway you are and what the property access needs. The delivery day is confirmed with you at order, and if rain has turned the track to mud we would rather reschedule than get a truck stuck in your paddock.

Asked about Beaudesert
Can a truck get across my causeway or creek crossing?
It depends on the crossing, the weight rating of any culverts and the recent weather. Describe or photograph the route in when you ask for a quote. If there is any doubt, a set-down spot closer to the road may be the better option.
Can I store hay in a shipping container?
Yes, and it stays dry, but only store hay that is properly cured. Damp hay heats up in any enclosed space. Keep bales off the floor on pallets so air can move.
Should fuel and chemicals go in a dangerous goods container?
For flammable liquids and many farm chemicals, yes. A DG container has ventilation and a bunded sump floor to contain spills. Tell us what you store and roughly how much and we will match the unit.
Do I need council approval for a container on my Scenic Rim property?
It depends on how it is used and for how long. Check with Scenic Rim Regional Council, particularly if the container is going to stay permanently.
